Known for being polished and roomy, the 2020 Volkswagen Passat builds on the legacy of the previous model. If you enjoyed the ’19 Volkswagen Passat then the 2019 version will make you happy. Despite a complete exterior refresh, the brand-new Passat is in fact very comparable to the previous design. Should the safe, gently refreshed Passat get a spot in your driveway?
Despite being a new vehicle, the drivetrain of the 2020 Volkswagen Passat is virtually unchanged from the 2019 Volkswagen Passat model. While not explicitly stated on vw.com, it appears that the turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder engine is back, as is the 6-speed auto. The engine still produces 174 horsepower, but the torque is up 23 lb-ft to 207 lb-ft. It’s anticipated to still reach up to 36 miles per gallon on the freeway, but the added torque means it should seem a little faster off the line.
The 2020 Volkswagen Passat redesign is a mild one, not revolutionary (not that there’s anything wrong with that) and highly resembles the previous model. The outside styling seems as if the engineers took the previously upscale style and made a more sleek variation. The brand-new LED outside lights and optional 19-inch R-Line wheels offer the Passat a vibe of athletic opulence. When you get into the driver’s seat you’ll notice that the cabin has actually copied the exact same evolutionary styling updates as the exterior. The dash, gauges, and infotainment system all look like the previous model, simply in a sleeker style.
Tech remains a huge selling factor for brand-new car and SUV customers and while the 2020 Volkswagen Passat hasn’t gained any kind of new technology features what it does offer is very good. A touchscreen infotainment system featuring voice control, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and optional NAV complete a few of the great tech offerings. On the safety side, automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, and rear cross-traffic alert are included on all ’20 Passat models. Adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist are optional at an extra expense.

My dealing with this Volkswagen dealership were surprisingly pleasant start to finish. Quick attentive service directly with a service representative who worked with me start to finish to resolve the issues with my vehicle quickly, efficiently and at a very reasonable price point. Their initial quote was nearly dead on correct both prior to and after the initial inspection of the vehicle. Provided great detail electronically so that I could see every aspect of the issue and what it would take to resolve it. They also provided a perfect balance of electronic options that were easily accessible via my smart phone and I also retained complete capability to reach out at any time via text or phone with any concerns or questions. Once approved completed the repair required near lightning speed turning a fairly significant repair in 24 hours after approval. They gave the car a quick cleanup as well which was a pleasant surprise. Final payment and pick up was quick easy and efficient. My particular service advisor, Melissa was a true pleasure to deal with. I don’t know how this experience could have possibly been any better so when asked to write a review, I was more than happy to do so. We have had the vehicle back a few hours now and happy to report that the repair was completed exactly as promised and is working flawlessly. This was the first time I was not greeted when I walked in and immediately I presented a coupon for oil change and the young lady let me know it would be $350 I reminded her that I had a coupon and she immediately tallied everything up again and it was like $200 dollars then they sent me an email for $1500 total approximately I said I just wanted oil change and this was the first time I have used a coupon apparently her communication skills are lacking and her salesmanship is poor.
